Begin with a draft that has a clear purpose. Decide who will read it and what they need to understand, decide, or do. An editing pass is more useful when it has a real job: simplifying a technical explanation, adapting an update for a customer, or removing repetitive wording from a first draft.
Choose the tone that fits the situation, then compare the suggestion with your source material. The editor can rearrange language, but it cannot verify a date, identify a missing caveat, or know whether a claim has been approved. Keep the evidence and judgment with the person responsible for the finished work.
